What is the difference between casual and temporary work?
Casual work utilises people for a maximum of 4 weeks. The work is ad-hoc and the individual will be asked whether they are available that day. The salary is a basic salary of £5.78ph and the employee must submit a timesheet in order to receive payment for the hours worked.
IHB temporary workers are contracted and given a commencement date and expected end date. This may sometimes be extended dependant on the circumstances of each individual contract. The pay rate for the IHB is dependant on the scale of the post the individual is recruited to.
What is the pay rate?
For Casuals the pay rate is £5.78 per hour basic.
For temporary workers they will be paid the relevant scale for the post they are occupying. For example if you were working as a Clerical / WP operator, this is a Scale 2 post which has an annual salary of £13,836. This equates to an hourly rate of £7.19ph. This is the amount you would receive per hour worked in that post.
How long are the contracts for?
Each contract is different. You will be told how long the contract is expected to last when you are offered the post. Contracts are unlikely to be less than one month and will not normally go beyond one year.
What are the benefits?
If you are employed through the IHB you get numerous benefits. The hourly pay is excellent compared with other agencies. You accrue Holiday pay. You receive the same pay and benefits as any employee of Humberside Police. Once employed you are an internal employee and not only will you gain skills and experience of working for a large public organisation but you will also be able to apply (should you wish to) for any internal vacancies that are advertised force wide.
If you want more flexibility then maybe casual work is for you. Casual work is ad-hoc work utilised on a day-to-day basis, normally for a maximum period of four consecutive weeks. If you want the flexibility to be available one day and not the next then perhaps this is the area you should consider.
What hours would I have to do?
Each contract differs. Some are part-time, some are full-time, and some require evening workers or shift workers. The hours that you are able to work will be discussed at interview and then we will match your availability to vacancies as they arise.
Where will I be based?
The In House Bureau covers the force area. Again each contract differs. You would state which areas you were willing to work in or travel to and this would be used in finding a suitable post.
