Jon Dillon and Niki Elis joined Humberside Police as PCSO's in February 2005.

"I enjoy the fact that i walk into work knowing that no two days will be the same. The job has so much variety from supporting officers in their time of work, directing traffic at accident scenes, guarding crime scenes, dealing with youths causing annoyance or taking a leisurely stroll around my beat talking to members of the community.
It is a very rewarding career, to have residents write in to thank and praise you for the work you have done, and the difference you have made to their quality of life is not something you can get in many careers.
I am particularly proud of working closely with the council's 'safe Communities' to combat cycle theft. We are making the public aware of cycle thefts particularly when left unlocked outside shops and schools even for a short time. I am offering to stamp and code bikes free of charge at a number of locations in the town."

"Every shift brings something new, not knowing what might be happening around the next corner on my beat keeps the job interesting. The diversity of the role means that you can go from detaining someone for an offence, to reassuring someone who feels vulnerable in their home, to saving disputes, to playing your part in a major incident.
Becoming a PCSO has been one of the best moves i have done. You get every possible emotion in this job. The best feeling is when you get a thank you from someone you have helped.
This year i have been involved in Operation Lifestyle. It was great seeing children take up a variety of challenges in their areas throughout the summer holidays. The children had a great sense of achievement which made all the hard work worthwhile." |
