Hours: Full Time
Department/ Division: Operational Support C Div
Date Joined Humberside Police: 1996
Career History with the Police:
First posting to D Div Bransholme/East Hull. From there joined Operational Support Section in January 2000 and have been there ever since. Became C Div when LPT’s were created. While in OSS I had a 6-month attachment to Operation Vanguard, a plain-clothes unit set up for signal crimes.
Career History prior to the Police:
From leaving school in 1985, I worked for the Humberside County Council in the Architects Department and then in the Technical Services Department. I left in April 1996 when the Council disbanded as I was waiting for my call to the Police.
What elements of the job do you enjoy the most?:
My role in the OSS. I enjoy the more hands-on elements of the job, from searching, executing warrants, firearms, house-to-house enquiries, surveillance, public order and training tactics to other officers.
What would you say to someone who was thinking about applying for a job with the force?
Get some life experience before joining and prepare to have your eyes opened. It is not always a pretty sight but it can also be very rewarding when you are appreciated for a job well done. There are also lots of opportunities to become skilled in areas that may not be covered in private industry as policing is so varied.
Please give details of any work based project, achievement or challenge that you are particularly proud of.
I am proud of becoming a firearms officer and a public order trainer/tactical advisor as they are under-represented by female officers. |
