Joining the Special Constabulary
Join us as a Special Constable and you’ll be able to choose a Local Policing Team to become attached to, either in your own or a neighbouring community.
You’ll enjoy three months of training at the Police Training Centre in Hull, for one evening a week, plus four weekends. The training will cover areas such as criminal law, police powers and procedures, communication skills, officer safety and first aid.
After this, you’ll have ten weeks of “on the job” training with your local division. Here, you’ll work with either an experienced Special Constable or a regular officer, usually for four hours a week at a mutually convenient time.
Once your training’s completed you’ll join your local Policing Team and will become eligible to claim under the terms of the Special Constabulary Allowance Scheme.
The Special Constabulary Allowance Scheme
This is a pilot scheme that provides an allowance of £1500 a year to all Special Constables in Humberside Police, in return for at least four hours a week of operational duty. This is in addition to the expenses for travel and refreshment that Special Constables can claim.
