Members of the Special Constabulary are just the same as their regular police colleagues, with similar powers and duties. The only difference is that they’re volunteers, and they work part time.
‘Specials’ come from a wide range of backgrounds and bring many diverse skills and abilities to the role. But they share a common aim – to help make their local communities safer, and – just as important – feel safer. In fact, they’re incredibly important in reassuring communities across Humberside, particularly in dealing with anti-social behaviour and the kinds of crimes that can blight areas and make local people feel uneasy.
